There is a long tradition of producing and processing fine seafood at the fishing harbour. Centuries ago, herring and eels were smoked and marinated on the banks on the Elbe. Simply preserving the catch quickly developed into refining the taste.
Today, Fischmarkt Hamburg-Altona GmbH still produces seafood on "Große Elbstraße" based on traditional craftsmanship, using the very latest production equipment.
